Additional opening weekend screening events include Saturday afternoon at 2:00PM at the Newark Museum, Newark, NJ; and an afternoon and evening program at Sussex County College, Newton, NJ.

The weekend wraps up with a gala event in honor of Thomas Edison's birthday on Sunday afternoon February 9th, at 2:00PM hosted by the West Orange Film Society at the Essex Green AMC Theater in West Orange, NJ.

The festival's annual competition is juried by noted exponents of independent film and video and results in 40 to 50 works chosen for the festival's annual tour. The tour visits 60 or more host sites annually in 20 or more states across the country from NY to Boston, Colorado to Florida. This year special screenings are scheduled for The University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham, UK; and the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises in Abu Dhabi.

The Black Maria Film and Video Festival presents the vast majority of programming in person, hosted by a festival associate, which facilitates the full appreciation of the work through interactive dialogue with the audience. Our host venues include museums, universities, libraries, community organizations and other arts organizations across the US and abroad. Following is a partial list of host sites on the 33rd Annual Festival Tour from February through July 2014.
